Lewiston Police Department Pipe & Drums

The Lewiston Police Department Honor Guard includes one of the very few police bagpipers in the State of Maine.

Officer Scot Bradeen

The Pipes:
The bagpipes that Officer Bradeen plays were donated to the Honor Guard by Mr. Donald Veach of Cambridge Massachucetts in 1998. They were custom made in Scotland by Grainger and Campbell.

Mr. Veach learned that Officer Bradeen was learning to play the bagpipes, but was without a set of pipes. He contacted Officer Bradeen and offered the very generous donation. Left is a photo of Mr. Veach presenting the pipes to Officer Bradeen.

The Piper

Officer Bradeen, a member of the Bike Team, has been playing the bagpipes since November, 1998. He started with what is called a chanter and received lessons from Mr. George Pulkennin of the Dunlop Pipes & Drums. Officer Bradeen spends, on average, one hour per day practicing. Officer Bradeen is also a member of the Maine State Police Pipe & Drums. He plays at all department funerals, parades and various other Honor Guard related events. The State of Maine Tartan, pictured in the background, is that worn by Officer Bradeen.

Pipes & Drums?

At present, Officer Bradeen is the only member of the department involved in the Pipes & Drums, but he hopes to be able to organize a complete Pipe and Drum Column. Due to the time involved in learning to play, and practice, the bagpipes, it is very demanding of personal time.
